For the first time in Philippine Political History, a seemingly inevitable constitutional crisis looms in the air as the executive and legislative branch of government goes head to head with the judicial authorities as the nation prepares for the climatic showdown in the senate as congress impeaches incumbent Chief Justice Renato Corona for multiple violations of the constitution.

Why has the executive branch headed by President Benigno Aquino is so hot on the tail of the chief justice who is allegedly covering up for the imprisoned former president Arroyo. Corona is accused of being illegally appointed by Arroyo since the constitution bans appointments within the two months prior to the next national elections. By accepting the appointment, he has violated the constitution and is considered as a midnight appointee. Therefore it is deemed fit that he should be impeached.

With regards to the substance of the impeachment complaint, since Corona is still a citizen of this country and therefore capable of availing his rights based on the present constitution, there may be a risk of him escaping the noose already wrapping on his neck.  The proofs against him are overwhelming. It is time for us to judge if he really is innocent or guilty.

For us we may think that what does these events entails us to become? Are we really involved in this matter? The answer is yes. We are very much involved since it is a matter of great national importance. The uncovering of truth is what really matters here.

So why should we stop this impeachment proceedings? Is Corona afraid of something? If he really is innocent, why is he doing his best to stop the truth from uncovering? Corona has showed multiple times that he is really not wanting for things to be revealed. Look at the Truth Commission. What is unconstitutional in uncovering the truth? Is Corona protecting someone’s interest like maybe the former President?

Shouldn’t the Supreme Court hold the integrity of fairness with regards to the interest of this country? Indeed Renato Corona has failed in that matter. Renato Corona should not answer to the likes and whims of former President Arroyo, instead to the people of the Philippines who promulgated the very constitution that allowed him to serve in his office. Since he violated that, he has violated the will of the Filipino people. It is time to answer now. The time of reckoning is at hand for all the sins they have done to nation. He is all alone now.

The former Ombudsman who also prevented the recovery of truth has already resigned to spare her the humiliations. His master the former President and her co conspirator Abalos has already been detained in prison. The Philippine Himmler Jovito Palparan is already on the run. No one can escape the hands of justice.

Let us not misinterpret the quest for justice as an act of dictatorship. As they say the truth will set us free. Therefore this truth will set our nation free from the bad reputation this would be criminal has put as in. As a catholic school and as part of the Filipino youth, we advocate for truth.

Mr. Corona, if you are truly innocent, face the charges against you and spare! The truth will set you free.
